Direct Care Support Professional

The Living Skills Attendant provides direct support and community-based and/or home-based instruction for adults with developmental disabilities in the areas of academic skills, advocacy, art, budgeting and money management, communication, community experiences, computer training, cooking club and meal preparation, cultural events, education, gardening, health and safety, independent living skills, mobility, music, outdoor experiences, personal care training, reading and auditory stimulation, recreation, relaxation and sensory experiences, self-advocacy, self-care, socialization, supported employment, travel training, vocational training, volunteer jobs, and other designated skills.

- Attends to the needs of participants in areas of personal care, such as eating, dressing, bathrooming and positioning.- Assists with researching community activities, events, and destinations, determining accessibility and practicality, planning trips to desired locations, and arranging/accessing transportation, and attends outings with participants (during work breaks, if applicable).- Assists participants with mobility in the community and on site by pushing wheelchairs, including pushing, pulling, and bending, as well as securing wheelchair tie downs.- Drives agency vehicles (mini-bus, van, and/or other) and drives participants in personal vehicle on regular field trips to provide services.

- Attends to needs of consumers who have Restricted Healthcare Conditions such as gastronomy tube, colostomy, finger stick testing, use of oxygen, or other in areas.- Is trained and certified in medication administration, and follows proper medication procedures.- Organizes, plans, and conducts at least one small group activity per week.

- Assists with communication, speech skill practice to improve communication, and will learn to use a variety of communication systems.- Assists with documentation and maintenance of participants' permanent files, participant database and records, and participant personal, program, and emergency information. - Attends Health & Safety meetings, supports the Health & Safety program, and participates in regular trainings and emergency drills.

Special Requirements/Must Have: Ability to pass LiveScan fingerprinting, health screening, TB test, and drug & alcohol test both prior to and during employment; Reliable transportation, valid CA DL, auto insurance, and clean DMV; Ability/willingness to drive participants in personal vehicle to provide services, as needed, and to drive agency vehicles.

Physical stamina and ability to fulfill a variety of agency job responsibilities; Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changes in job assignments, personnel, individuals served, environment, and procedures; Excellent interpersonal skills, including discretion, tact and judgment, as well as effective written and oral communication skills; Ability to maintain professionalism in uncomfortable personal care situations.
