Hampstead Part Time Donation Attendant

Position Summary

The Donation Attendant is responsible for greeting and assisting donors; unloading, pre-sorting, and transferring donated goods to the sorting areas to be processed. This position may provide support by cross training in other areas and departments of the retail location, as well as attend trainings and certifications in operating equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet donors in a courteous manner; accepts and assists in unloading donations in a timely and courteous manner from vehicles, offer tax receipts, and maintain accurate daily donor counts
  • Pre-sort and transfer donated goods and places items into the designated material handling equipment
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of retail environment including the sales floor when needed
  • Complies with all standards and safety regulations
  • Exemplifies quality customer service
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required
  • May be trained and certified in operating equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Able to meet and communicate effectively with the public
  • Strategic innovative thinking, solid judgement, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to obtain certification for forklift and/or pallet jack operation
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and Holidays
  • Must be able to pass a background and drug screen
  • Able to perform functions with or without special accommodation

Working conditions

  • Thrift retail and warehouse environment
  • May be exposed to dust, debris, animal hair, and any number of allergens
  • Items donated may be textile, glass wares, electronics, books, media, furniture, plastics or any variation.
  • Consistently moderate noise level
  • Tolerance of extreme changes in temperature and humidity

Physical requirements

  • Lifting and carrying up to 40lbs without assistance/ up to 100lbs with assistance
  • Developed fine motor control (grasp, handle, manipulate objects with fingers)
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, stopping, squatting, pushing; climbing ladders; standing for long periods of time
  • Able to travel across a variety of surfaces (stairs, ramps, uneven terrain)
