SUMMARY: The Deli Cook Associate is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served, complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. The production team member is responsible for appropriate use of facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud.


- Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.

- Help educate customers about our products and our store philosophy.

- Ensure successful completion of all opening/closing duties.

- Ensure that all food is cooked with the highest quality and freshness.

- Assist in monitoring the execution of recipes for hot items, cold case, and grab & go, and seasonal items.

- Ensure that only approved, typed recipes are used to cook from.

- All new recipes must be submitted to Deli Manager for approval prior to use.

- Offer samples, suggestions and ways to prepare products.

- Work with Deli Manager on weekly/monthly meal planning for hot case, cold case, grab & go case and seasonal changes.

- Taste as many recipes as possible, checking for quality and consistency.

- Must understand ingredients used in cooking items.

- All items taken from store must be checked out through the cash register.

- Do quality cooking for: cold case, hot case, grab & go, desert case and sandwiches to go case.

- Check the quality, taste and freshness of all items daily.

- Maintain cleanliness of work area; wash & sanitize dishes and equipment routinely.

- Keep all cases attractively displayed and full at all times.

- Attend mandatory monthly store and departmental meetings.

- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, a team member must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent must be able to use the following machinery: espresso machines, drink blenders, slicers, coffee grinders, coffee brewing machinery, tea brewers and chef knives. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. WORK ENVIRONMENT : This job operates in a commercial kitchen environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The incumbent must have excellent knife skills and the skills to work with commercial stoves and ovens.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK : This position will be Full Time. This position regularly requires working weekends and holiday hours.

TRAVEL : Local travel may be required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE : A high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of deli experience in a commercial kitchen or certification from an accredited school or training program highly desired. Knowledge or natural and organic foods preferred. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of preparing palatable foods that are appetizing in appearance or be willing to learn. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of methods and procedures of serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling or be willing to learn. Food Handler’s Card and/or ServSafe card is required.
