Agile Product Owner

Key requirements

The Product Owner heads up a customer team of Agile Business Analysts, Service Designers, User Experience Designers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) assigned by the sponsoring business unit. The main aims of the role are to:

  • Develop, maintain and communicate the service vision to key stakeholders
  • Engage with service users, Service Owner business stakeholders, other programmes and suppliers to develop opportunities
  • Lead the customer team to elicit and understand key stakeholder needs and translate these into the Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
  • Direct the Agile Business Analyst in establishing and maintaining a prioritized backlog of requirements
  • Collaborate with others to develop Epics and User Stories following INVEST principles
  • Work with Service Designers and User Experience Designers with the support of the Agile Business Analysts to develop a thorough understanding of the service roadmap
  • Direct the Agile Business Analyst in structuring and managing the backlog
  • Ensure that the assets produced by the customer team are accurate, sufficiently complete and represent the requirements as understood
  • Ensure the delivery team understand the requirements sufficiently to progress through the delivery process and to verify the delivery team’s output meets the original intension of the requirements

Person specification

You will be:

  • A confident communicator and presenter with significant experience running workshops and design sessions to gather requirements and develop possible design solutions using well developed influencing skills
  • Well-developed leadership and team management skills, particularly in working across matrix and multi-disciplinary environments in building consensus
  • Use of process modelling and mapping, user journeys, personas, Epic plans and User Stories in developing and communicating well-rounded requirements
  • Adept at providing the interface between business and technical stakeholders with an ability to bridge the language gap between the two
  • Analytical ability to define relative business value and delivery and service management cost
  • Experience of Agile, user centred and client focussed DevOps environments
  • Comfortable making timely decisions and being the single point of accountability
