Job Duties

  • Lead all process analytical testing activities including analytical method transfer, optimization and qualification, method troubleshooting and sample testing to support process development (PD)
  • Extract and purify fatty acids
  • Conduct all analytical testing for biologics process samples
  • Establish assay protocols and prepare technical reports, and present data/results to the project teams
  • Lead sample forecast meeting and coordinate with PD groups for sample testing planning, interpreting testing data in conjunction with an electronic lab notebook
  • Perform high throughput analytical methods and new technologies to reduce sample testing turnaround time
  • Develop and perform analytical methods for in-process sample testing to support biologics process development and small/ pilot scale production
  • Supervise and train associates and junior scientists
  • Work collaboratively with external partners to manage early development programs and outsourced analytical activities


  • Master’s or PhD related to Fatty Acid Synthesis; or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or related field with 5 or more years of experience in the biotechnology industry
  • Advanced knowledge of food chemistry, fatty acid/lipid chemistry and metabolism, ingredient functionality and interactions, food processing techniques; food microbiology, food safety fundamentals; food packaging; Canadian and US Foods laws and regulations is required
  • Advanced knowledge of food grade processing techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of fundamentals and practices of sensory and consumer science is required
  • Working knowledge of upstream processing/ microbial fermentation a plus
  • Proven track record of launching consumer food products and familiarity with stage gate process would be highly desirable
  • GMP/GLP is a plus
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, hands-on environment
  • Extensive knowledge of chromatography techniques required
  • Substantial hands on experience working in downstream processing environments with the ability to work with others, using aseptic techniques, performing equipment operation, sanitization and all associated manufacturing tasks
  • Significant knowledge of protein chemistry
  • Have “good hands” at the bench and an ability to perform careful and consistent experiments
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency using basic programs
  • Strong problem identification and objection resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to build rapport and maintain strong relationships with customers
