Position: Program Site Coordinator

Summer Employment Opportunity for Truro, Bridgewater, Sydney & Kentville(June 25 - August 31, 2018)

The Youth Leadership in Agriculture & Resource Industries (YLARI) program is an exciting opportunity offered to youth in four sites across Nova Scotia. This program focuses on inviting youth to explore the agriculture and resource industries through a paid summer internship where they are employed to gain work experience and knowledge of the field. Youth will complete a two week training/orientation before beginning a seven week placement with an employer.

General Duties

  • Coordinate one of the Youth Leadership in Agriculture & Resource Industries (YLARI) program sites by acting as a liaison between youth and their employer during the duration of the summer
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to facilitate and supervise training/orientation week where youth complete First Aid training and other relevant training related to the agriculture/resource industry
  • Maintain communication with youth (and their family) to provide support and offer encouragement throughout placement
  • Maintain communication with employers by visiting businesses regularly (bi-weekly) and connecting through phone calls to check in and offer support
  • Document and report successes and concerns with all participants involved

(youth, their family, the employer)

  • Help develop and oversee actual day to day program activities including working with presenters and arranging tours and site visits
  • Work in consultation with the manager on potential placements, work experience or volunteer opportunities

Job maintenance support while students are out on placements:

  • Perform weekly or biweekly job site visits depending on needs
  • Deal with any job placement issues or placement changes
  • Act as liaison to local offices
  • Act as a mentor for participants in the program
  • Support youth with job coaching as needed
  • Provide weekly feedback from youth and from employer
  • Report as required to manager
  • Maintain participant lists including attendance and certifications
  • Address any concerns from feedback and/or notify Program Manager
  • Program evaluations mid and at the end of program
  • Provide feedback on summer program
  • Any other duties agreed upon and specified by the Program Manager

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Professionalism while collaborating with all parties involved in the project
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for employment site visits
  • Previous experience working with youth is preferred
