Retail Counter Associate

Job Description:

The retail counter associate is a direct connection to our customer. This role is to serve our customer in what ever capacity necessary to earn and keep loyal customers. Working in a retail store setting and servicing walk-in customers, this person will identify hose and connector problems, solve and fabricate fluid conveyance solutions in a prompt and courteous manor. This position encompasses all aspects of retail work including inventory management, product knowledge, customer service, order processing, store layout and appearance, and growing the business.


  • Service customers at the counter by taking orders and entering them into the system accurately.
  • Quickly and efficiently identify hose and fittings and fabricate hose assemblies to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Follow company pricing and credit guidelines
  • Follow company cash handling/reporting guidelines
  • Solve or find someone to quickly solve customers’ problems
  • Increase sales and average order size by means of cross-selling, up-selling, add-on sales and offering promotional sales items as well as new products
  • Keep merchandising and counter areas clean and attractive
  • Keep counter area inventory stocked; remove or add inventory items to stimulate impulse sales; remove discontinued items from the sales floor
  • Work with other departments to resolve customer service issues in a timely manner
  • Light warehouse duties as assigned may include shipping and receiving
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Attend sales/product training meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Stand/walk for duration of work hours
  • Lift/carry/maneuver heavy material or equipment (up to 80 lbs)
  • Pass a drug screen and background check


  • High school diploma/GED required


  • 2 years in similar position preferred
  • Product/applications experience preferred
  • Wholesale distribution experience preferred
  • Mechanical background preferred
  • 1-3 years prior retail sales experience preferably in hardware, auto parts or industrial products is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of fluid power preferred
