Job Summary

Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to organize and run an after school program in an at risk neighborhood. This person is responsible for providing a safe, caring, and educational environment while working with children grades K-5 on various academic, mentoring, leadership, and other activities. The Staff Member in Charge (SMIC) is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Police Athletic League programs and activities.

Pinellas PAL primarily runs as an after school program operating multiple sites in the Lealman area. During the Summer, the sites turn into full day summer camp sites, offering full time hours for the Summer. This position is for an elementary aged site. The SMIC is responsible for overseeing the facility, staff, students, and programs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reports to Academic Head.
  • Provide supervision and interaction with coaches, staff, volunteers, and children.
  • Coach, drive vans, mentor, tutor and keep students on a successful track.
  • Keep accurate records necessary for licensing, grant reporting, and other programs.
  • Basic cleaning and upkeep of facility.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must pass a Level 2 Background Check, Fingerprinting, and Polygraph through Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
  • Must pass a Level 2 Background Check and Fingerprinting through DCF Clearinghouse.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT (Department of Transportation) Physical
  • Must be clean from all illegal drug usage for at least 6 months (includes marijuana).
  • Currently possess or capable of currently possessing DCF Staff Credential, OR
  • Have completed Six hours of college courses in Early Childhood Education, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Guidance, or Recreation and be at least 21 years of age, OR
  • Have completed an A.A. degree with Six hours of college credits in Early Childhood Education and be at least 18 years of age, OR
  • Have completed a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential program.
