Hours 25 hrs per week

Annual leave 29 days per year pro rata (including public holidays)

Regular working hours 6am – 11am Monday – Friday (may vary) Occasional weekends.

To ensure the SYT Building is cleaned and maintained to an exceptionally high standard, to meet all health and safety and licensing requirements and maintain a healthy working environment for young people, staff and other building users.

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Schedule and undertake cleaning and maintenance tasks and health and safety checks for the building
  • Manage the cleaning team for the building
  • Liaise with relevant external contractors and other occupiers of the Old Sheriff Court
  • Maintain appropriate records to comply with health and safety requirements and ensure the efficient running of the building
  • Maintain stocks of cleaning and catering essentials
  • Support SYT staff with manual tasks associated with office needs and delivering activities and events
  • Act as one of the SYT keyholders for security and access purposes

The post holder needs to be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience within a cleaning or maintenance environment
  • Experience of supervising the work of others
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining a healthy and safe working environment in a public venue
  • Experience of scheduling tasks and maintaining accurate records for health and safety purposes

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

  • Appropriate level of health and fitness to carry out the tasks of the job
  • Ability to work to a schedule and use own initiative
  • Ability to carry out basic DIY tasks to an appropriate standard
  • A flexible and positive attitude to meet cleaning and maintenance requirements as they arise
  • Pride in achieving high standards of work with an attention to detail
  • An aptitude for working in an environment that has young people at its centre
  • Basic IT skills to maintain records

The post holder needs to be able to:

  • Be flexible with the pattern of working hours from time to time
  • Undertake heavy lifting of furniture and theatre items and work at height
  • Undertake health and safety training relevant to the requirements of the role

This role involves regulated work with children and as such, the successful applicant will be required to register with the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme (this will be administered by SYT before a firm offer of employment is made).
